5 Useful Around-The-House Gadgets
It’s not all hand carts and hammers when it comes to home repair and maintenance – there are some quite handy gadgets that you can use to keep track of what’s going on in your home, and just make it easier to maintain and beautify your home. Plus add a little cool factor to it, too. Impress your friends!
If you aren’t a great DIY’er and really want to get a more professional look for your lawn, fake it – with the “Let’s Edge It” line of products. They aren’t bricks – but they look like them – and they don’t weigh the same as bricks.
Easy to manipulate and energy friendly, the built in solar lighting and easy to install “bricks” are a great way to make that great first impression for your house.
While it’s a pretty penny for an iRobot Scooba, the investment is definitely a worthwhile one, especially if you’re someone who doesn’t necessarily have the time to clean the floors as often as they should be cleaned.
The Scooba is actually more useful than lazy – this is one of those instances where a machine can be more suited for the job than we could, cleaning in a much more sanitary manner. First it dusts the floor, sweeping away any dirt left, and then washes and immediately dries the floor, which keeps bacteria from building up on the wet floor while it sits while we have to go back and dry it manually.
The Scooba isn’t just a tile cleaner, either – it can be used on hard wood floors, as well. They also have different size models, so say, if you really need something small enough to get behind the toilet, they probably have a model sized to do just that.
If you want the modern, clean look of stainless steel appliances but can’t afford a whole new kitchen set, you can get the next best thing – the look of stainless steel (and the magnetic function) on your current appliances.
The process to “paint” your appliances is quite thorough – would probably take you the entire day to do – but the finish is very high grade and won’t fingerprint!
Lazy Lawn Mowing
Don’t want to mow your lawn (and who does?) but know that it needs to get done? That’s where the LawnBott (or any other various incarnations) come in. This particular model uses a flat blade to mow your lawn, which means that it both cuts and fertilizes your lawn. And it can even put itself away after it is done.
Both useful and entertaining, this gadget switches on due to the pressure of flowing water. While there are options that are just a light to entertain your kids (and the kid in you) the most useful variation would be the faucet light that actually changes color when the temperature reaches above 86 degrees, which could help prevent burns or making cold hands colder.
These are a relatively cheap investment at under $20, and could give you a small sense of fun in the mornings before you head off to work.
A couple of other useful home gadgets are:
- Motion Activated Lighting
- Glass De-fogger
