Nokia Announces Lumia 620
Nokia has released a new Windows Phone 8 Smartphone named the Lumia 620 which the Finnish mobile maker asserts, will provide “the most fun for your money“. They also stated that this was part of their strategy to attempt to reach out to a wider audience and new markets.
Once upon a time, Nokia was the undisputed leader of the mobile phone market, creating iconic phones that remain engraved in consumers’ minds even today. Now of course, that position has been usurped by Samsung and Apple, with Nokia languishing far behind in the race for supremacy. But they have their revival hopes pinned on the third WP 8 Smartphone in the Lumia series.
Lumia 620 Features & Specs
The handset, which was unveiled at a tech Event in the French Capital earlier, is compact, and features a clear black WVGA screen with a resolution of 800 x 400 pixels and just under 4 inches in size, and is powered by a 1 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor from Qualcomm.
It also has a 5 MP camera and a 1300 mAh battery. You get 512MB RAM and 8GB in built storage; in case you feel you will require more space you can, further expand it to 64GB with the use of microSD memory cards. For connectivity you have Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC.
Lumia 620 Price & other details
This is an entry level Windows Phone 8 Smartphone from Nokia, priced at $249. Earlier they had released the more powerful Lumia 920 and 820. Both these phones received positive reviews and a good response in the market, and no doubt this boosted Nokia’s confidence, allowing them to come out with an entry level phone running WP 8.
Being a Windows Phone 8 Smartphone it will feature Live Tiles for updates straight to the Start Screen, PeopleHub and a Me Tile in addition to the usual Windows Phone 8 functions.
The 920 is a higher end phone, with all the goods, aimed at the bigger players and is also the flagship device of the Finnish company; the 820 is medium range and the 620 is for the very price conscious consumer. I suspect, with the price and the jazzy colors the phone will be manufactured in, it is more or less aimed at teens and young adults. The Lumia 620 cetainly has a youthful air about it!
But one thing all three handsets have in common is the integration of Nokia’s proprietary lens technology in its (VGA) front camera. The photography experience promises to be pleasant enough with the interesting features like adding animations to still pictures with the help of the CinemaGraph lens and SmartShoot, another camera app which will enable you to create a single shot from several different images. You can even remove unwanted images from the photos.
It will also feature other Nokia staples like Nokia Maps, Drive, Transport, Nokia City Lens (it displays info about local surroundings as an overlay on the buildings that are seen thru the cameraview finder) and Nokia Music in addition to its novel design, making it a highly competitive and desirable Smartphone in its price range.
It will ship in 7 colors: white, cyan, lime green, magenta, orange, black and yellow; the shells are interchangeable so you can mix and match colors as per your preference.
It will be made available first in Asia, by January next year, and later in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere.
