This sheet comprises of all do’s and don’ts that need to be followed for creating a uniform design for varied Google products. Initially previewed in the Google+ app, material design tool-kit comprises of refreshed iconography, a cool splash of colors, typography and a lot more that can be used for designing an app with consistent interface.

Material is the metaphor
As per this principle, Google has focused on the significance of a material metaphor. The company has mentioned that material metaphor is basically a theory that unifies the concept of rationalized space and a motion system. Here, the material has been inspired by the paper and ink study, with the edges and surfaces of material offering visual clues which are in close proximity to reality.
Be bold, graphic, intentional
Google advices its app developers to make a judicious use of all the print-based design elements including grid, typography, color, imagery, space, scale etc. The company expects the developers to make a deliberate color choice, use a large-scale typography and include intentional white spaces for creating an app interface that is, both, bold and loaded with eye-catchy graphics.

With this principle, Google highlights the importance of using motion in design. Since primary user actions serve as inflection points which initiate motion, your app design can get a whole new dimension via motion.
